The University of Colorado women’s tennis team gets a shot at the No. 1 team in the country after defeating Kansas State 4-1 on Thursday in the first round of the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas. The Buffs play Baylor, also the top seed in the conference tournament, in today’s quarterfinals.

CU, the No. 9 seed, won the doubles point and got singles wins from Monica Milewski, Abbie Probert and Erin Sanders to beat the eighth-seeded Wildcats.

Wyoming loses center.

University of Wyoming men’s basketball coach Heath Schroyer has an open roster spot after Boubacar Sylla was declared medically disqualified because of persistent problems with his left foot. Sylla will remain on scholarship and continue school at UW. Sylla, a sophomore center from France, played in 29 games this past season, averaging 2.6 points and 10.3 minutes.
