From 49 straight wins to playing an 0-61 foe.

Something that suggests a 50-game Eaton victory streak is a fairly safe bet.

The Reds, ranked No. 1 in The Denver Post/9News Class 3A poll, continued their spring baseball mastery of Brush on Tuesday with a 12-2 triumph that stopped the Beetdiggers’ own unbeaten surge at four.

Yet few streaks can compare to what unbeaten Eaton owns over upcoming opponent Highland: 61 consecutive wins. Another streak extender would make the Reds 13-0 this spring as they pursue a 3A state title “three-peat.”

If hits had played a bigger role Tuesday, the Beetdiggers (8-5 overall, 4-1 in Patriot League) might have challenged this incredible Reds run. Brush belted eight hits to Eaton’s nine — but five BHS errors and other various miscues ended this battle after five frames.

Tanner Anderson’s three-run homer was the only hit during a 4-0 Eaton first inning. The ‘Diggers promptly delivered a two-out, second-inning rally that featured Dylan Acosta singling home Eric Garcia, who had also singled.

However, a third early BHS error ignited Eaton’s four-run second. The Reds plated three more in their next at-bat beginning with a hit batter.

Brush’s only other run scored when Derek Lynch tripled and raced home on Christian Valles’ base hit. Yet Brush could get no closer than that 12-2 final margin.

The Beetdiggers continue a busy five-game week on Thursday at Sunset Park against Valley (4 p.m.).
