Getting your player ready...
Terri Terry had no idea Martin Garcia, the 5-foot-1 cook she hired six years ago at her deli in Pleasanton, Calif., would be competing in the Kentucky Derby. But thanks in part to Terry, Garcia will ride Conveyance today in Louisville, Ky. “It’s one true Cinderella story,” said Terry, who had no clue Garcia knew his way around horses until she went to his apartment to take him to the doctor for a back injury. There, Terry saw the walls of his home were adorned with pictures of horses. Once he healed, Terry took Garcia out to see her horse, which he rode bareback. “It was an amazing connection between him and the horse,” Terry said. “He is the horse whisperer.” Contra Costa (Calif.)
