Greg Smith’s best out pitch is arguably his pickoff move. Smith picked off Scott Hairston in the second inning Tuesday night, fooling the Padres’ baserunner so badly that he didn’t even slide. In 2008, Smith picked off 16 runners, the highest total since the stat has been recorded.
Double up.
Carlos Gonzalez has hit third, fifth and now second for the Rockies in the past five games. The outfielder doubled home a run in the fifth inning at Petco Park with his first extra-base hit on the road trip.
