CENTENNIAL, Colo.—A Colorado man convicted in the shooting deaths of two people has been formally sentenced to be executed.
A judge entered the sentence Wednesday for 25-year-old Robert Keith Ray. He scheduled the execution for the week Aug. 23 but issued a stay so the state Supreme Court can review the case.
A jury handed up the death sentence in June after convicting Ray of murder and other charges a month earlier.
Under Colorado law, jurors decide whether the death penalty should be imposed, but a judge must formally enter the sentence.
Ray was convicted in the deaths of Javad Marshall-Fields, who was going to testify against him in another murder case, and Vivian Wolfe, Marshall-Field’s fiance.
