First-year Colorado women’s basketball coach Linda Lappe lost her first player to transfer after sophomore guard Alyssa Fressle decided to leave the team, the school said Wednesday.
Fressle, a former Denver Post Ms. Colorado Basketball player of the year from Highlands Ranch, averaged 7.8 points and 3.0 assists in 59 games for the Buffaloes. She started all 30 games last season.
Fressle said she is leaving the team for personal reasons.
“After considerable reflection on my personal goals I have decided to transfer. This is a decision that hasn’t been easy and that I have been contemplating for some time,” Fressle said. “While I have enjoyed my time at CU, this decision was made with the intention to follow my own heart.
Fressle can play with another NCAA team if she wants, but will have to sit out next season because of transfer rules.
“As Alyssa and I sat down during my first couple of days here, it was clear her heart was not with CU women’s basketball and had not been for quite some time,” Lappe said.
