Maybe Seth Smith should just pinch hit. It doesn’t seem fair, but his skill in that role has not gone unnoticed. He delivered an RBI double in the sixth inning Wednesday, tying the score at 5-5. As a pinch-hitter this season, Smith is 3-for-9 with five RBIs.
Running into trouble.
For the second time on the trip, the Rockies made a baserunning gaffe, dousing a rally. Melvin Mora was trapped in a rundown after Clint Barmes’ two-run single in the third inning. Ryan Spilborghs cost the Rockies a run Sunday in San Francisco when he ran into a tag at third base.

Aaron Cook allowed five runs in five innings after permitting just 11 runs in his previous 62 innings at Petco Park.
