BOULDER, Colo.—A Colorado man accused of fatally biting, shaking and suffocating his infant son has pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in death.
Twenty-seven-year-old Benjamin Koller of Lafayette entered his plea Wednesday. He faces 16 to 48 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 29.
Koller’s 7-week-old son, Jack, was taken to a hospital in July with a skull fracture, bruises, bite marks and scratches. He died Oct. 5.
Benjamin Koller was originally charged with first-degree murder, but prosecutors dropped that count in exchange for his guilty plea to a lesser charge.
At a hearing, a detective testified Koller admitted he sometimes covered the baby’s nose and mouth to make him stop crying and once dropped him onto a changing table.
