METAIRIE, La. — Once a fourth- round draft choice out of Division II Bloomsburg, guard Jahri Evans is now the highest-paid interior lineman in the NFL.

The Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and Evans, who was an all-pro and Pro Bowler last season, agreed Wednesday on a seven-year contract worth $56.7 million, with $19 million guaranteed.

• A jury awarded former Miami Dolphins receiver O.J. McDuffie $11.5 million in his lawsuit against a prominent physician over a career-ending toe injury. John Uribe, a former Dolphins team doctor, called the decision a travesty and said an appeal is likely.

• A Minnesota judge said he will issue his decision today in a lawsuit filed by Minnesota Vikings defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, who are challenging their four-game suspensions for violating the NFL’s anti-doping policy.

Dunphy, Owls agree to extension

PHILADELPHIA — Temple basketball coach Fran Dunphy agreed to an eight-year contract that could keep him with the Owls through the 2018 season.

• Assistant Mo Cassara was promoted to succeed Tim Welsh as Hofstra’s coach.

• The NCAA is recommending tougher penalties for players who throw elbows, and women’s teams could be experimenting with a longer 3-point line next season. The proposals must be approved by the playing rules oversight panel next month.

D.C. United earns first victory

WASHINGTON — Danny Allsopp scored twice in the first half to help D.C. United win for the first time this season, 2-1 over the Kansas City Wizards. He became the first Australian to score in MLS history.

Ugo Ihemelu scored in the 79th minute and FC Dallas, playing the final 18 minutes a man down on the road, held on for its first victory of the season, 1-0 over the Houston Dynamo.

Jesus Padilla scored twice in Chivas USA’s 4-0 victory over the New England Revolution in Foxborough, Mass.

Ice Box skipping Preakness

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Derby runner-up Ice Box is skipping the Preakness.

Trainer Nick Zito said it’s likely the 3-year-old colt will be pointed to the Belmont instead.

Meanwhile, Super Saver returned to Churchill Downs for the first time since winning the Derby, jogging a mile. He will be shipped to Pimlico on Wednesday for the Preakness on May 15.
