Traffic on I-25 in Thornton was backed up and detoured this morning by a truck accident.

Around 7:50 a.m. a truck ran off the highway near 130th Avenue, hitting a guardrail and taking out about 100 feet of the railing before crashing to a stop, said Matt Barnes, a Thornton Police Department spokesman.

After the crash the northbound lanes of the highway were shut down at 120th Avenue and traffic was detoured, a Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman said.

Two other vehicles were caught up in the aftermath of the crash, pelted with debris from the truck and the rail. The driver of one of the vehicles suffered “minor” injuries, Barnes said, and was taken to a local hospital.

A CDOT crew mopped diesel fuel off the highway, which reopened around 10:50 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
