A Thornton police officer was justified in fatally shooting a disturbed man who reached for a knife as he approached police, the Adams County district attorney has determined.
Clinton Mason, 45, was killed March 10 outside the Thornton home where he lived. Mason was reaching for a knife in a sheath on his belt, according to an investigative report released by the DA’s office. Officers Brandon Duskey and Tom Connor had ordered Mason to stop walking toward them and to put his hands up. Duskey used a Taser on Mason, but he kept advancing.
Connor opened fire as the officers believed their lives were in danger, the report concluded. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
