Two projects by Denver Post photographers have won the 2010 Sidney Hillman Prize for photojournalism.
Joe Amon, Hyoung Chang, Andy Cross, Judy DeHaas, Reza Marvashti and RJ Sangosti were honored for “Below the line: Childhood Poverty in Colorado,” a photo essay documenting the lives of urban and rural families living in poverty.
Craig F. Walker was honored for “Ian Fisher: American Soldier,” which chronicled the life of a Colorado soldier from his enlistment to his tour in Iraq.
Rebecca Clarren, a former associate editor of High Country News in Paonia, also won a Hillman prize, in the magazine journalism category for “The Dark Side of Dairies.”
Since 1950, the Hillman awards have been given each year to journalists, writers and public figures whose work “fosters social and economic justice.”
The Hillman awards will be presented May 26 in New York.
