New Colorado women’s basketball coach Linda Lappe added size to the Buffaloes’ roster Thursday with the signing of 6-foot-4 center Rachel Hargis of Robinson (Texas) High School. Hargis is Lappe’s first signee.

Hargis averaged 14.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game as a senior this season. She shot 52 percent from the field to lead the Rockets to a 20-12 record.

“Rachel provides some much-needed depth in the post and we are excited to have her on board,” Lappe said in a CU news release. “She played for a tremendous high school and club program. We’ll expect her to bring those winning ways to Colorado.”

As a junior, Hargis helped Robinson go 34-5 and win the Texas 3A state championship. In the title game, she scored 20 points and 13 rebounds to earn most-valuable-player honors. Robinson is located just southeast of Waco.

“I feel (Colorado) can be a second home for me and that I will fit in great there,” Hargis said.

Hargis was ranked No. 43 among senior high school post players by . She joins three players who were signed in November by then CU coach Kathy McConnell-Miller: 6-foot forward Shae Kelley of Denver East and 5-foot-7 twin guards Ashley and Brittany Wilson of Southern California powerhouse Poly High of Long Beach.
