FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Fort Collins residents are having a candlelight vigil for a toddler who died this week after a March garage fire at his home.
The family of Trenten Viney says the boy died Wednesday at a California hospital after going into cardiac arrest. Trenten was almost 2.
Authorities say the fire happened after the family’s dog knocked over a gasoline container, triggering an explosion after the liquid got into a space heater. Trenten’s father was also burned but survived.
Trenten’s family says they were hoping he would recover but that “his little body just couldn’t take it anymore.”
A vigil is planned Friday night at Fort Collins’ Rolland Moore Park.
