DENVER—A state Senate District 34 vacancy committee has appointed Democrat and former Denver school board member Lucia Guzman to fill the remaining term of Paula Sandoval.
Sandoval stepped down to serve on the Denver City Council. She was term limited.
Guzman is executive director of the Agency for Human Rights and Community Relations for the city and county of Denver.
She plans to run for the seat this fall. Democrats Jerry Frangas and Joel Judd and Republican Derec Shuler also have formed campaign committees.
