TOPEKA, Kan.—The Shawnee County trial of a 24-year-old Colorado man accused of kidnapping a Dover couple is scheduled to begin Monday.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the trial comes after a judge denied a change-of-venue request for Jesse Dennis Dimmick, of Aurora, Colo.
In the Shawnee County case, Dimmick is charged with two counts of kidnapping, one felony count each of theft and eluding police, and misdemeanor counts of battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has pleaded not guilty.
Authorities accuse Dimmick of fleeing Colorado last September and eventually crashing a stolen van in the front yard of a home in Dover, about 15 miles west of Topeka.
He is accused of taking Lindsay and Jared Rowley hostage in their home, but they escaped unharmed when Dimmick fell asleep. Officers stormed the home and shot Dimmick.
