Colorado is tipping its cap to tourists.
The state is giving away collector’s-edition ballcaps with “Welcome to Colorful Colorado” embroidered on them.
You can sign up for a free cap by going to and filling out a form indicating which of the Colorado Welcome Centers you plan on visiting. You can then pick up your cap at the center.
Clothing and caps offered by the Colorado Tourism Office have become popular souvenirs.
Since the cap offer kicked off in July, 14,183 have been given away.
There are welcome centers in Alamosa, Burlington, Cortez, Dinosaur, Fort Collins, Fruita, Julesburg, Lamar, Red Rocks and Trinidad.
The cap features a brown cloth front and brim with the “Welcome to Colorful Colorado” motto as it appears on signs that greet arriving motorists, officials said.
A proposal to replace the traditional rustic wooden welcome signs with more modern, easier-to-maintain signs was shot down in 2006 after public outcry.
The free caps will be offered through the end of the year, officials said.
