Buena Vista graduate Mason Finley can add Big 12 champion to his growing list of accolades: the Kansas freshman won the shot put and discus at the Big 12 Championships over the weekend.
Finley took the shot put on Saturday with a mark of 19.12 meters — nearly a full meter better than second place finisher Jacob Thormaehlen of Texas — then won the discus Sunday with a throw of 60.18 meters.
He currently boasts the third-best marks nationally in both events.
Finley holds the national high school record in the discus at 236-feet, 6-inches. He won the shot put and discus at the Class 3A state championships his final three years of high school.
