Four Republicans running in the 7th Congressional District will make their case tonight to get on the ballot.
Michael Deming, Ryan Frazier, Michael Sheely and Lang Sias are going through the congressional district assembly, which will be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
The winner of the Aug. 10 primary faces Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Perl mutter of Golden, who is seeking a third term.
Candidates going through the assembly process must receive 30 percent of the delegate vote to make the ballot. If they get between 10 percent and 30 percent, they can petition onto the ballot by collecting voter signatures. If they fall below 10 percent, they are out of the race.
The front-runners appear to be Frazier, an Aurora city councilman, and Sias, a pilot.
Deming said his chances of making the ballot are “slim.”
“I haven’t earned the trust of political insiders,” he said, adding he’s just a “regular guy who hit a tipping point that pushed me to run for Congress.”
Sheely said if he doesn’t get 30 percent, he won’t bother with petitions.
He estimated that he’s put 10,000 miles on his vehicle campaigning in the portions of Jefferson, Adams and Arapahoe counties that make up the 7th District.
Check-in for tonight’s event begins at 5:30. The assembly begins at 7.
