GLENWOOD SPRINGS — A Glenwood Springs business owner has been arrested for allegedly defrauding customers and vendors out of thousands of dollars.
Shawnee Kim Ryan, 53, owner of Glenwood Design Center on Grand Avenue, was arrested on seven counts of felony theft Tuesday at her business in downtown Glenwood.
According to the arrest affidavit for Ryan, the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office began investigating Ryan in June 2009 after a local attorney filed a written complaint alleging Ryan’s deceptive business practices.
The complaint filed in Garfield County District Court by local attorney Anthony Durrett names approximately 40 people who claim to have been “victimized” by Ryan.
The complaint alleges that Ryan ran a “racketeering enterprise” and has “defrauded numerous clients out of substantial amounts of money.”
