COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Author Greg Mortenson is receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs at its commencement ceremony Friday.
The Bozeman, Mont., humanitarian co-founded the Central Asia Institute, whose mission is establishing community-supported education, especially for girls, in remote Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Mortenson also co-wrote the book “Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace One School at a Time.”
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs says a record 1,157 students are graduating this spring.
