The Colorado State men’s golf team is tied for second place after Thursday’s first round of the NCAA West Regional on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain in Bremerton, Wash., five strokes behind Washington.
Dustin Morris shot a 3-under-par 69, and Bryce Hanstad a 71 to lead the Rams to a 3-over 291.
Morris is tied for the individual lead with Espen Kof- stad of the University of Denver, who qualified as an individual, as did Wyoming’s Gabe Maier, who’s tied for 44th after a 77.
Whitney, Bardgett stay in the hunt.
Tom Whitney of Air Force and Colorado’s Justin Bardgett qualified as individuals for the Southwest Regional at Carlton Oaks G.C. in San Diego. Whitney is in a tie for 25th after a 3-over 75, one stroke better than Bardgett.
UNLV’s Eddie Olson leads with a 68.
DU’s Kim drops from 11th to 19th.
Denver’s Kimberly Kim shot a 2-over 74 in the third round of the women’s NCAA championship, her worst round of the tournament, and fell from a tie for 11th into a tie for 19th at 2-over 218.
Arizona State’s Jennifer Johnson continued her bid for a wire-to-wire win, shooting 70 in the third round to lead by one stroke at 9-under 207 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
Klingensmith in 60th.
Colorado Christian’s Jon Klingensmith shot his best round so far of the Division II championship at Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., a 1-over 73, to stand at 20-over 236, in a tie for 60th.
