A Fruita man has been arrested on second-degree murder charges after he told police he shot another man during a argument.
According to an arrest affidavit, Fruita police responded to a report of shots fired at 530 Virgo Way in the Western Slope town at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
When officers arrived, they found a man of the floor of the mobile home with a gunshot wound.
The man was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and later died, police said.
Saturday afternoon, the Mesa County coroner’s office identified the victim as 37-year-old Henry Trisler Jr., who died of a wound to the head.
Wayne Gert, 37, told police he shot the man.
“He (the victim) doesn’t need medical attention,” Gert told police according to the affidavit. “He needs the coroner. I’ve been trained to shoot to kill,”
The arresting officer said Gert appeared drunk and admitted he had been drinking at the time.
