COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A teacher who tackled a suspected gunman outside a suburban Denver school is getting a ride with the Air Force Thunderbirds.

Deer Creek Middle School teacher David Benke will be a passenger aboard one of the precision flight team’s F-16s on Sunday after they arrive in Colorado Springs.

The Thunderbirds are in Colorado for the Air Force Academy graduation on Wednesday.

Benke is credited with knocking down Bruco (BROO’-so) Strong Eagle Eastwood outside Deer Creek Middle School after two students were shot and wounded Feb. 23.

Both students recovered. Eastwood has been ordered to stand trial on charges of attempted murder and other counts. He hasn’t entered a plea. He’s s being held under $1 million cash bail.
