AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—The Air Force Academy has new cadet award in honor of a graduate who was killed in Afghanistan.

The 1st Lt. Roslyn L. Schulte (SHUL’-tee) Cadet Award will be presented on Tuesday to an academy senior for character, leadership and service. The winner will be chosen from 11 nominees.

Schulte, a 2006 graduate from St. Louis, was killed outside Kabul in May 2009 by an improvised explosive.

She was training members of the Afghan National Army in intelligence operations.

Schulte was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and National Intelligence Medal for Valor.
