LEADVILLE, Colo.—It’s not quite like doping before an international cycling races. But one Colorado bicyclist has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges for cheating in a bike race.
Thirty-five-year-old Wendy Lyall pleaded guilty Monday to a trespassing charge for bib fraud in last August’s Leadville 100. Authorities said Lyall completed the bicycle race under another name, using a bib belonging to an older woman who decided not to race. Lyall placed second in the other cyclist’s age category, cyclists 40 to 49, and took home a gold pin and a silver belt buckle.
Lyall will have the charge dropped from her record in a year if she writes an apology to race organizers and takes a bicycle education class.
