ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo.—A day after Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park opened for the season, melting snow is leading to closures.
The road opened for the season Friday, but park officials say it closed around 10 p.m. due to significant melting and erosion in construction areas.
Earlier, park officials had said to expect at least overnight closures on the road through the weekend because freezing temperatures at night could cause thick ice to build.
The road is billed as the country’s highest continuously paved road. It climbs to 12,183 feet and connects the towns of Estes Park and Grand Lake.
