NEW DELHI — A Maoist group that was blamed for a deadly train crash in eastern India on Friday has denied any responsibility.

“We were not involved in the sabotage in the railway line,” the Communist Party of India (Maoist), an umbrella group for the Maoist insurgency, said in a statement. The group asked for a “neutral investigation team.”

West Bengal police officials said on Monday that 147 people had died and 150 were injured in the crash.
