The FBI today arrested a woman believed to be the so-called “Bad Hatter Bandit,” wanted for robbing two Denver banks and attempting a third since April while wearing a floppy pink hat.
Debra Flamio, 54, was arrested by Denver police and FBI agents at a home in the 3300 block of South Holly Way in Denver.
Flamio was previously arrested in 2002 on a forgery charge and received a two-year deferred sentence, records show.
She is accused of an attempted bank robbery April 15 at the TCF Bank at 2090 S. University Blvd. in Denver and a bank robbery a short time later that day at the Bank of the West at 6565 E. Evans Ave. in Denver. She also is suspected of robbing the Bank of the West at 2050 S. Downing St. in Denver on May 25.
Investigators said that the robber presented a note to a teller demanding cash, but no weapon was show and no one was injured.
Flamio is being held in the Denver City Jail this evening before an appearance in federal court and prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver.
Bank robbery is a federal offense punishable by up to 20 years in prison for each offense, according to the FBI.
