John Elway celebrates his 50th birthday this month — with a party for you and a party for him.
His birthday is June 28 — but we hear he’s throwing a VIP bash June 19 at the Soiled Dove Underground, underneath the Tavern at Lowry. The date is early because Rascal Flatts, the hot country trio, will perform and that’s the slot the band had open.
Elway’s Cherry Creek chef Tyler Wiard will cook for the Dove crowd — and it might include Elway’s favorite meal at Elway’s: John’s salad, bone-in prime rib-eye steak or salmon, a glass of Hideaway Creek cab, creamed corn and a Ding Dong. Both Elway’s outlets — in Cherry Creek and at the Ritz-Carlton — will serve it up this month for $50.
Elway will also visit each location five times during the month — with a football. He’ll toss it out and then sign it for the guest who catches it.
Go Glo.
CBS4’s Gloria Neal wants her own show — and not just any show. She wants a show on Oprah’s upcoming network, OWN.
You can see her audition tape and vote for Glo on Facebook at “Help Glo Get A Show.” She stands there, talking the talk, saying she wants to feature “everyday folks that don’t have filters. They don’t know what not to say.” At 5 tonight, CBS4 will do a story on Neal and her quest.
Hal and Mark.
Hal Holbrook is back at the Buell on Saturday night doing “Mark Twain Tonight” for the umpteenth time. He wore makeup when he started in 1959; I saw him do it when I was in high school in 1966.
Even after the death of his wife, Dixie Carter, on April 10, Holbrook knows the show must go on because this is a good year to keep Twain alive. 2010 marks the 175th anniversary Twain’s birth, the 125th anniversary of the publication of “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and the 100th anniversary of Twain’s death.
Book ’em.
The Denver Public Library’s Annual Used Books Sale opens its dusty covers June 10-13 at the main branch. Of the 60,000 books on sale, I’m interested in “EZ Magic,” about 50 years old, with “practical tricks for stage, club & home,” which includes “The Vanishing Whiskey Glass and Pin-Up Girl Mind Reading.”

Brandon Davis, son of former Denverite Nancy Davis and grandson of Marvin and Barbara Davis, is out of rehab and set to marry girlfriend Michelle Haugo. He even gave her a ring from grandma Babs.
Boulder babe Jessica Biel has a big part in the upcoming movie “The A-Team” due out next Friday. She plays Army Capt. Charisa Sosa, who’s chasing the team. Sosa’s also the ex-girlfriend of Bradley Cooper’s character, “Faceman” Peck. Pics of her in the actioner look foxy and fierce — with lotsa leather.
