From “Sangria: Fun and Festive Recipes,” by Mittie Hellmich (Chronicle). Serves 4-6.
Ingredients
1 orange, sliced
1 apple, cored, sliced
1/4 cup red bell pepper, diced
2 ounces Pisco brandy
1 750 ml bottle dry red wine, chilled
12-ounce bottle club soda, chilled
About 3 cups ice cubes
Directions
In a large (at least 2 quarts) glass pitcher, combine the orange, apple, red pepper and brandy.
Gently stir in the wine.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or as long as overnight to chill.
When ready to serve, add the club soda, stirring gently with a long-handed wooden spoon to combine.
Fill tall 10-ounce glasses or wine goblets with ice. Slowly pour the sangria over the ice and serve.
