We bring you this little factoid today as all points to Nebraska picking up that rivalry where it left off in 1990.
It is not a done deal, but a Big 12 insider with ties to Nebraska told The Denver Post Wednesday afternoon that Nebraska is headed to the Big Ten, based on what he’s hearing from athletic department officials.
The Omaha World-Herald, meanwhile, quoted an unnamed Big 12 executive who said he expects it to happen as early as Friday when the Nebraska Board of Regents meet. The executive said league officials have been put on alert for official word Friday if the realignment dominoes begin falling.
The Big 12 has given Nebraska and Missouri a Friday deadline to let them know of their intentions. Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne indicated on a radio show Tuesday evening that the university would have a decision soon.
An official invitation from the Big Ten has yet to surface as of Wednesday afternoon.
NU regent Chuck Hassebrook told The Associated Press on Wednesday morning that he expected conference affiliation to be added to the agenda for Friday’s previously scheduled board of regents meeting. Board bylaws allow new business to be added to the agenda until 24 hours before the meeting.
