It won’t go down in the record books, and it won’t win any prizes, but a family in Westminster is proud of Tuesday’s big catch.
Corey Staab, his 9-year-old son Jared and father Roger were fishing on their boat at Standley Lake in Westminster when they had the catch of the day.
Corey managed to snag a 31-inch, 12-pound walleye out of the lake, while Jared tried to help his dad get it into the boat.
The record for the biggest walleye caught in Colorado was set in 1996 at more than 17 pounds. That walleye was also caught at Standley Lake.
The Staab’s walleye is already at the taxidermist waiting to be mounted.
“It was a little extra special to have my dad down from Nebraska and my kid out of school, so three generations of us being out there was fantastic,” Corey said.
