AURORA — An international security company has entered into a consent decree to settle accusations of widespread hiring discrimination against African-Americans in Aurora.
Wackenhut Corp., doing business as G4S Wackenhut at its Aurora facility, “engaged in hiring discrimination against 446 rejected African-American applicants for the position of traditional security officer for a two-year period,” according to a media release from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.
As part of the settlement, Wackenhut agreed to pay $290,000 in back pay and interest on behalf of the rejected applicants.
Wackenhut has also agreed to hire 41 of the applicants into traditional security officer positions, the Labor Department said.
