Colorado is being hit hard with springtime weather tonight with strong thunderstorms, hail, funnel clouds and two reported tornadoes on the ground.

Separate tornadoes were reported to have touched down briefly in Washington County near the Last Chance community, according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado watch is in effect for much of northeastern Colorado until 11 p.m. A watch means conditions are conducive for tornadoes.

The counties in the watch area are Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Weld.

Golf ball-sized hail was reported 3 miles north of Byers in north-central Arapahoe County about 8:17 p.m., after a funnel cloud was spotted a little earlier near Deer Trail, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered showers fell on parts of the Denver metro area, as a cool, wet weather begins to move in for the weekend, according to forecasters.

Denver has a 20 percent chance of showers tomorrow morning, before precipitation rates rise to 70 percent Friday night, with a low temperature of 49 degrees.

Rain is likely all day Saturday with a high of just 57 degrees, followed by a high of 58 on Sunday, forecasters said.

Temperatures are expected to warm up beginning Monday, with a forecast high of 76.
