“SCOUNDRELS,” 8 p.m., KMGH-Channel 7 Two ABC summer series premiere tonight. First, a new dramedy starring Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”), adapted from the New Zealand series “Outrageous Fortune.” When the patriarch of a family of small-town criminals is sentenced to a lengthy prison term, mom (Madsen) must care for the criminal brood; she wants her family to go straight.

“The Gates,” 9 p.m., KMGH-Channel 7 Next, the pilot of a horror series about the Monohans, who move into a new home in an exclusive community called The Gates. The dad (Frank Grillo), the new chief of police, immediately investigates neighbors in a missing-persons case.
