BOULDER — A 25-year-old Boulder man was arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of running up behind a woman who was hiking on the Foothills Trail in north Boulder, trying to pull down her shorts and punching her in the face when she fought back, according to Boulder police.
The victim, whose name hasn’t been released by police, told officers that she was returning from a hike about 8:40 p.m. Sunday and was on her cell phone with her sister when a man approached mumbling something to himself, according to an arrest report.
The man, identified by police as Michael Gilbert Gonzales-Davis, was acting oddly and said something to the woman like, “Can I be with you?,” according to police.
Rhe woman decided to hurry and get out of the area, according to police.
When she started to rush, according to police, Gonzales-Davis allegedly grabbed the woman from behind and wrapped his arms around her. The woman told her sister over the phone, “I’m being attacked on the trail” and dropped the phone, police said. The woman said her attacker then pulled her off the trail and reached for her shorts, according to police.
The woman said she remembered thinking that she had “one good shot” at him, and she punched the suspect in the face two to three times, according to police.
The woman then got away and ran down the trail for five minutes until she reached her neighbor’s house and called 911.
