A body of a rafter was recovered from the Eagle River just before noon today.

The victim was identified as Patrick Bush, 66, of Birmingham, Ala.

The man was rafting with Lakota Guides when he fell out of the raft while going through a set of rapids in Dowd Junction, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Four other people, including the victim’s wife and a guide, were on the raft.

The raft had an experienced guide and a safety boater that followed the raft for extra safety.

Dowd Junction is located about midway between Eagle-Vail and Minturn.

Everyone on the raft was equipped with a helmet, a personal floatation device, a wet suit and booties.

The death is still under investigation, but early indications indicate the death was an accident, according to the sheriff’s office press release.
