BAY CITY, Mich.—A Colorado man charged with threatening Michigan U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak has made his first appearance in federal court in Bay City.
David Hesch of Loveland, Colo., was released Tuesday on the same bond conditions set about three weeks ago in federal court in Denver. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Hesch and his father, Russell Hesch of West Branch, Mich., are accused of conspiring to threaten Stupak because of the Democrat’s vote in favor of a health care law.
The FBI says a letter threatened to paint the Mackinac Bridge with blood from Stupak and his family.
Father and son were named in a criminal complaint on June 4. The elder Hesch was subsequently indicted on June 9.
