Sting was at Red Rocks on June 9 and 10 — and already A&E/Biography has the concert on the air. You can catch it on “Private Sessions” at 9 p.m. Thursday on Biography TV and again at 1 a.m. Friday. He gives RR a shout-out, calling it his “favorite venue in the world.”
And Widespread Panic took a break before their three-night Red Rocks stand Friday through Sunday to visit Twist & Shout on Thursday night. Shop owner Paul Epstein was beside himself and blasted his joy on his website.
“OK, so I am often fairly over-the-moon after a good instore. And everyone knows Twist & Shout has had a long and loving relationship with the boys from Athens, Ga. And we also know that this great American band has been very kind to our store, our state and our venue (Red Rocks). In fact this was the third time they have come to Twist & Shout and generously shared their time with us. But over-the-moon does not begin to describe the emotions I am feeling. Widespread Panic came to Twist & Shout Thursday night and gave all of us a rare and amazing experience. We were told to expect a low-key three or four song acoustic set. Instead we got a 45-minute full-on, seven song electric set. (Expletive), if this wasn’t the loudest, most intense, most fulfilling live music we have ever hosted. They just killed it.”
After the set, the band sat and signed copies of their new album, “Dirty Side Down.”
“They were total sweethearts to everyone,” wrote Epstein.
All about me
I’m sitting in at 7:30 a.m. today for Denise Plante on KOSI 101 FM. She is on vacation on a lake in a leaky boat, so I’ll gab between songs with co-host Murphy Houston.
And on July 8, I have a bit part in the play “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.” It starts at 8 p.m. at the Barth Hotel — another great production for Senior Housing Options.
Tie me up, tie me down
I wrote here Friday how Dr. Zahi Hawass, the visiting Egyptian boss of all things Tut, had his tie cut off at the Trail Dust during a visit to Denver in 1987. So trying to make it right, do-gooder Jeff Riley showed up at Friday night’s wild Flappers & Pharaohs party at the Denver Art Museum and presented Dr. Hawass with a new tie. Riley had bought it for $175 that day at Neiman Marcus. And no one cut it off. Yet.
Shanny’s
When your boss is in town, you take him to your own restaurant. That’s why Mike Shanahan was spotted with Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder at Shanahan’s on Saturday night.
