LONGMONT, Colo.—A Colorado consortium is seeking up to $150 million in stimulus money in a second round of funding to expand high-speed Internet access.
The stimulus package included $7.2 billion to expand broadband access nationwide. Colorado received $3.7 million in the first round of funding.
A consortium called Eagle-Net is pushing for second-round funds to help connect fiber optic networks to different sites.
Eagle-Net chief information officer Denise Atkinson-Shorey says having access to high-speed Internet is like having had access to railroads when the West was settled: Towns with railroad stops flourished.
Eagle-Net is a spinoff of the Centennial Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Longmont.
