Oregon hired Broomfield High School graduate Tony Stubblefield as an assistant coach on the men’s basketball team Tuesday. Stubblefield, 40, coached the past four seasons as an assistant at Cincinnati.
Stubblefield has been a college assistant for 17 seasons. His stops include six seasons at New Mexico State, including one season as the Aggies’ interim head coach. He also has coached at Texas-Arlington and at Nebraska-Omaha, where he was a two-year letterman at guard and a team captain after transferring from Clinton (Iowa) Community College.
While on the Cincinnati staff, Stubblefield also was the Bearcats’ recruiting coordinator and helped them sign Lance Stephenson, a former McDonald’s All- American who was a second-round pick of the Indiana Pacers in the NBA draft last week.

Incoming freshmen on the Air Force hockey team include Aaron Quick, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound defenseman who grew up in Monument. Quick played last season for the Wichita Falls Wildcats and the Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League.
Also in the Falcons’ 10-member freshman class are 5-9, 175-pound defenseman Jake Mussleman of Littleton and 5-10, 165-pound forward Casey Kleisinger of Edwards. Musselman played last season for the NAHL’s Kenai River Brown Bears and Kleisinger played for Bismarck. Kleisinger had 20 goals and 34 assists in 55 games.
Fisher chosen coach of the year.
Metro State’s Jen Fisher was named the national softball coach of the year for NCAA Division II by CaptainU.
Fisher coached the Roadrunners to a 53-6 record this year. They won a super regional in the NCAA Tournament and reached the semifinals of the women’s College World Series in St. Joseph, Mo., where they were eliminated by national champion Hawaii Pacific. Fisher has a three-year record of 125-36 at Metro State, including a 92-20 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games.
