Firefighters doused a blaze inside a southwest Denver duplex this morning and one injured person was taken to a local hospital.

The fire broke out at about 6:10 a.m. at 317 S. Raritan St., said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.

Two residents fled the unit where the fire started and residents of the adjoining unit had to evacuate as well, Champagne said.

One person was taken from the scene to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Additional details on the victim’s injuries were not available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but firefighters believe it was started by either a candle or faulty wiring.
