The Pharos Fund, part of the Fort Collins-based Bohemian Foundation, has given $502,000 to 29 Colorado nonprofits to spend on programs that encourage young people to become productive members of society or that help develop catalysts for public awareness.

Recipients include the Poudre School District Foundation’s Digital Educator Program, which will help teachers use and integrate technology into their daily instruction so that they can better create a student population ready for the 21st century workforce.

Bas Bleu Theatre will use its grant to fund a “writers boot camp” for 50 young people this summer. The four-day event will give participants the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of writing fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry and screenplays from a faculty made up of local authors and writing experts.

“Through the Pharos Fund, we gain a broader understanding of the needs in our community,” explains Bohemian Foundation board member Cheryl Zimlich. “Community nonprofits are leading the way with innovative programs that enhance both child development and community awareness, and with the Pharos grants program, we (can) leverage further support and emphasize proactive community efforts.”

Pat Stryker, whose grandfather, surgeon Homer Stryker, started Stryker Corp., a world leader in medical technology and equipment, began the Bohemian Foundation in 2001. The Pharos Fund, added a year later, has given $9.5 million to Colorado nonprofits serving the Poudre School District boundary area.
