The treatment: Illuminating Brilliance Facial, 60 minutes, $75
This spa is for: Anyone looking for a quieter, more low-key option than the downtown, resort and shopping-mall spas.
First impressions: This little spa is located on the ground floor of a renovated historic commercial building and makes the most of its cozy space. Clients are greeted in the lobby by a tasteful (not overwhelming!) cosmetics and gift selection. Artwork by Colorado artists, most of which is available for purchase, graces walls throughout the spa, underscoring the idea that this is an accessible, welcoming retreat. Street parking is abundant.
The treatment was: Relaxing, and that’s the intent.
Aestheticians walk a fine line during facials between keeping to themselves in an effort to enhance the relaxation effect or getting verbose and clinical about their products and the condition of your skin. The latter can have them seeming more like salespeople than skin consultants.
This facial is meant to enhance natural beauty, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and leave your skin aglow. In those goals, it succeeds. My aesthetician was generally silent throughout the treatment, which can leave a client wondering exactly what the wiping, dousing, steaming and poking is all about. An inquiry revealed that she uses an array of products for this treatment from YonKa, a long-standing French botanicals brand.
Amenities: The spa’s new express menu is an opportunity for quick, low-priced add-ons, such as a half-hour massage or a half-hour pedicure.
Room for improvement: The aestheticians and nail technician who provided the half-hour “Sole Delight” express pedicure ($30) appeared somewhat inexperienced. Their services were fine, but they seemed less than confident in their work and even a little scared of their client.
Make the most of your visit: If you’re looking for a quick, easy getaway complete with places to shop, nosh and spa, you really can’t beat downtown Littleton’s charming, historic Main Street.
Know before you go: This place is practically empty during the week, making it ideal for an after- work or between-errands pop-in. On Saturdays, it’s naturally more hectic.
