A military helicopter crashed early this morning south of Pikes Peak during a training exercise.
Both pilots were taken to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs with non life-threatening injuries, according to a Fort Carson Public Affairs media release.
The pilots were flying an AH-64D Apache Longbow from the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York, when it made a “hard landing” at about 1:30 a.m., the U.S. Army said.
“The aircraft was conducting high altitude mountain environment training in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan,” Fort Carson said.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
