FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Fort Collins police say the driver in a crash that killed her and the male passenger had been drinking and was driving 87 mph on a city street when she lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a building.

Twenty-six-year-old Nicole Martinez and 23-year-old Francisco Ulibarri were killed Wednesday when their SUV went off the road at 80 mph and crashed into an insurance building. Both were thrown from the vehicle, which rolled. Martinez’s body was found on top of the building.

Investigators said Friday that they’ve learned through interviews that Martinez was out drinking before picking up Ulibarri, her boyfriend. They are waiting for blood alcohol tests to determine if she was drunk.

The couple had three children.
