Police suspect that a missing Montrose disc jockey might have ended up in fast-moving canal water, possibly trying to pull out one of his dogs.
Rick Steele, 48, hosted the weekday morning show on The Blast, 103.7, and the afternoon show on 94 KIX.
The 94 KIX website reports that police investigators “believe Steele somehow wound up in the high, swiftly moving canal waters either as the result of a fall or in trying to rescue a dog that fell in.”
Steele was last seen Thursday night. He parked his truck a few miles east of Montrose near South Canal, where he apparently was taking his dogs, Ernie and Katie, for a walk.
Steele failed to show up for his 6 a.m. shift Friday.
Friends and co-workers went to look for him and found his truck parked near the canal, said the station’s general manager, Jay Austin.
The search for Steele continued Monday. The Denver Post
