Tristan Sanders of CommonGround Golf Course set a course record Monday with a 7-under-par 64 and was the medalist at the 110th Colorado Golf Association Match Play Championship qualifier in Aurora.
Sanders, a former Emory University golfer, made five birdies and closed his sizzling round on his home course with an eagle.
Brian Dorfman of Cherry Creek Country Club and Kyle Danford of Fort Collins Country Club tied for runner-up honors Monday with 4-under 67s. A total of 16 players broke par in the qualifier.
Match play begins today at CommonGround, which is hosting its first CGA championship event, and concludes Friday. Defending champion Steve Ziegler of The Ranch Country Club is the No. 1 seed.
