A 7-year-old boy was burned in the face while playing with fire near Golden Tuesday afternoon.
The boy, who was not named, and a 10-year-old were playing with fire in the yard of his family’s home in the 15000 block of West 11th Avenue just after 1 p.m. today, said Jacki Kelley, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
The boys were burning sticks, paper and other items, when one of them poured gas or some other accelerant on the fire, causing it to flare, she said.
The boy’s parents were inside the home. One of the parents drove the child to Exempla Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge.
The child’s injuries were not life-threatening, Kelley said. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating, “but it appear there was any intent to cause these injuries,” she said.
